To the Editor:Re “Lawmakers Say Puff Bar Used Pandemic to Market to Teens” (news article, nytimes.com, June 2):The electronic cigarette brand Puff Bar is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the reprehensible ways the tobacco industry is hoping to profit from the Covid-19 pandemic. If you thought that the tobacco industry could not sink any lower after decades spent addicting children and adults to its deadly products, think again. As multiple news outlets and organizations, including the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, have reported, tobacco companies have been caught giving away face masks and hand sanitizer, promoting Covid-19 discounts and rolling out philanthropic efforts in response to the crisis. All this is taking place under a Food and Drug Administration policy issued earlier this year that includes gaping exceptions for Puff Bar and other disposable e-cigarette manufacturers, as well as companies that make refillable liquid nicotine systems. should act immediately to prevent the tobacco industry from addicting the next generation of tobacco users.
